Carolyn Downing Fankell, age 73, of Xenia, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Trinity Community.  She was born in Xenia on May 26, 1951, the daughter of Robert M. and Frances Jane (Beal) Downing, both deceased.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joe Eddie Fankell, whom she married February 7, 1981; children: Asia Fankell, Dena (Jeremy) Harper, all of Xenia and Owen (Christina) Fankell of Beavercreek; sister: Patricia (Steven) Nance of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren: Lauren Fankell; Maryn, Kynli and Grant Harper; Theodore and Berkley Fankell; great grandchildren: Bentley and Lennon Stout; niece and nephew: Rebecca Nance (Jason Wiggin) and Robert Nance; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Carolyn retired in 2016 from the City of Xenia Wastewater Treatment Division where she worked as a lab technician. She had also been the Greene County Bridge Inspector. She graduated from Xenia High School, Class of 1969 and earned her Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sinclair College. She had been a long time member of Faith Community United Methodist Church, since 1964 and more recently attended Bethel Community Church. She loved to exercise and could be seen walking her dogs on the bike path daily. She enjoyed cross stitch and crossword puzzles. She especially loved spending time with her family and playing with the grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 11:30 AM Monday, May 12th at Bethel Community Church with Pastor Craig Wright officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM Monday at the church. She will be buried at Woodland Cemetery at a later date.
