Dorothy J.
Stimpson
Oct 15, 1927 — Jan 16, 2025
Dorothy Jane Boyer Stimpson
October 15, 1927 – January 16, 2025
At Home With the Lord
Dorothy Stimpson loved Jesus. For at least the last ten years of her life, she wanted nothing more than to go home to see her Savior. She finally got to see Him on Thursday, January 16, 2025. We are sad that she is no longer with us, but happy for her in her joy with the Lord.
Dorothy was born on October 15, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Otto Boyer and Helen Jewett Boyer. She accepted Christ at age 16, believing that Jesus is the only salvation from her sins. She went on to serve with Kansas City Youth for Christ. Dorothy received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Taylor University and a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Kansas. After marrying Ed Stimpson in 1952, Dorothy worked in several places as a computer programmer (on a computer made of vacuum tubes!), including a trajectory program for the Sergeant Missile. Eventually, Ed and Dorothy settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Dorothy spent many years raising her two sons.
Dorothy loved to study God's Word, and she especially enjoyed Bible Study Fellowship, where she was a discussion leader for four years in the 1970s and for 9 years beginning in 1994. She was also active at several churches over the years, including the Evangelical Free Church of Salt Lake City, the Chinese Christian Church, and Grace Community Bible Church. Many people have shared with us how her humble and godly attitude encouraged them over the years. She was a quiet saint, but well loved by many.
Dorothy is survived by 2 sons, 5 granddaughters, and 2 great-granddaughters. Her sons are Patrick Stimpson (married to Sarah) and Mike Stimpson (married to Melinda). Her granddaughters are Anna Stimpson, Katherine Cudworth (married to James), Laura Stimpson, Christine Walker (married to Dmitri), and Jessica Stimpson. She also had a "bonus" granddaughter, Aurora Townsend (married to David). Her great-granddaughters are Rachel and Elizabeth Cudworth.
Dorothy was confident that she will spend eternity with God, not because she had done anything great, but because she trusted in the saving work of Jesus Christ. She wanted everyone to know that Jesus died for sinners, that He was raised from death, and that He offers salvation to all who believe in Him. She didn't want even her obituary to be about herself, but about what her Savior had done for her. Dorothy is now rejoicing in heaven with her Savior.
