Emma Lou attended Beavercreek High School and married James Guthrie, together having four children. She attended Cosmetology School when her children were very young and after the unexpected passing of her husband in 1970, Emma Lou went to work at the Fashionette in Xenia to save enough money to start her own hair salon, as a means to support her family. While working there, she met Roger Jenks, another widower and they were married in 1973. Her family helped her enclose a room onto her existing home to make a "one station" salon and Country Classics Hair Designs was opened in 1973. She was proud to know the salon is still in existence today with four generations of her family continuing her legacy. Emma Lou loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida with Roger. She was a member of  First Church of Christ on Ledbetter Road.
