Ernest L. (Roy) Harner died Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton.  He was born in Springfield on November 23, 1941, the son of Ernest L. and Hazel Linkhart Harner.

He married Patricia L. Gifford on October 23, 1965, at St. Brigid Church in Xenia.

Roy worked as an engineer for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad from 1966 to 2002 when he retired.  He graduated from Xenia High School in 1959.

He leaves his wife Patty of 57 years, four children, Peggy Harner (Xenia), Josie Harner (Xenia), Scott Harner, Xenia, and Steven (Kristin) Harner, Northfield, Minnesota,  four grandchildren, Ben Harner, Sarah Harner, Keith Harner, and Sam Harner, brothers Glenn (Phyllis) Harner (Xenia) and Fred Harner, Tolstoy, South Dakota, nieces and nephews, and very special friends, Gene Wyen, Kristy Harner, Tim Shoemaker, and Denise Coppock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Susan Gifford Zimmer, and sister-in-law Coleen Beiber Harner.

Roy enjoyed fishing and gardening and was known as "Mr. Fix-it" by his family and friends.

The family will have a private graveside service at their convenience at St. Brigid Cemetery in Xenia.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be given to the St. Brigid School Endowment Fund.
