Mar 7, 1931 — Jan 9, 2025
Jamestown
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jean S. Hartsock, age 93, of Jamestown on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Legacy Village in Xenia. She was born March 7, 1931 in Wilmington, Ohio, the daughter of Raymond and Reba (Kinnamon) Stingley.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph W. Hartsock in 1986; brother: Raymond Stingley, Jr. and sisters: Ruth Kohlmorgan and Dorothy Horney. She is survived by her children: Jennifer (Ross) Bittner of Cincinnati; Jane (Gary) Clemans of Cedarville; John (Kim) Hartsock of Enon and Joann (Bill) Garrett of Upper Arlington; her twin sister: Janet Huffman of Xenia; sisters: Barbara Davis and Betty Wall, both of Wilmington; and sister-in-law: Helen Ellison of Wilmington. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Amanda (Ben) Donley; Adam (Amy) Bittner; Erin (Kevin) Conte; Ed (Emma) Bittner; Zach (Shelly) Watts; Devin Hartsock; Mackenzie Hartsock; Sarah Huntley and Sean Garrett; and eleven beautiful great grandchildren: Olyvia; Van; Lola; Wyatt; Reid; Easton; Theo; Ellie; Emelia; Hannah; Bodhi as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean graduated from Kingman High School in 1949 and married the love of her life, Joe, on November 2, 1950. She worked as a bookkeeper for a few years until they started their family and began farming. Jean enjoyed being a farmer's wife and living and working on the farm, whether it was moving hogs, mowing yards, or caring for the many animals her husband or kids brought home. She was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother and great grandmother and especially relished family gatherings and time spent babysitting, playing, or just being with her family. Jean belonged to the Jamestown Friends Meeting and various other groups over the years. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and chatting with sisters, especially her twin sister, Janet. Jean was a strong but sweet lady, who appreciated the people around her and who loved to share stories about her life with Joe and the antics of her children. She has left her family with a lifetime full of memories and the desire for her homemade chicken and noodles.
