Obituary

The world has lost one of the most loved, respected, and hard working husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and man. John Warren Sewell peacefully passed away after fighting years of pain due to spinal and nerve damage on May 11, 2021.

John was born to Virgil and Margaret Sewell in Midland, Ohio. His parents, who preceded him in death, along with his sister Connie, taught him how to work hard and to save his money.  He started out at an earl age by raising rabbits and selling them to neighbors to eat along with mowing grass. He also spent time with his beloved Grandpa Parker who let him tinker on the cars that he worked on as a mechanic. John was never one who enjoyed the classroom, so when he graduated from high school, he was unsure of what path he wanted to pursue. John decided soon after graduation to join the military. He was sworn into the United States Air Force in December 1957.

John's time in the military was spent working on big machines mostly in the cold state of Minnesota and also in Canada.  There he made a lifetime friend with Fred Rosenbaum from Wisconsin. Fred and John enjoyed many days on Fred's family farm and traveling back and forth to see each other.

From the Air Force, John knew the career that he wanted and drove to Minnesota again for electrical school.  During that time, he met and fell in love with Doris Godlove. The week after his graduation from technical school, John returned and wed Doris.  They spent fifty-six wonderful years together as husband and wife and established their home in Xenia. John began working for Turner Electric.

Two years later, John and Doris were blessed with a daughter, Leigh Ann Sewell Meeks and three years following a son, Robert "Bob" Warren Sewell. John was a great father encouraging them to do well in school, teaching them sports and supporting them in all of their endeavors.

In April 1974, the Xenia tornado struck the home of John and his family. With John's dedication and hard work, he built them a new home nail by nail. John would work his day job and at night and on weekends, construct the entire house on his own minus the plumbing and brick. One year later after his sacrifice and sweat, they were able to move into the home.

Years passed with trips to Myrtle Beach, Hawaii and Florida. John gave his daughter away to David K. Meeks who became like a dear son to him. Then his son married Amy Luth who was loved like a daughter. John then was blessed with five special grandchildren: Jonathon, Phillip and Nathan Meeks along with Jake and Julia Sewell. John was also proud of his nephews and niece: Mark, Delaina and Matthew Damron.

Times with John were spent with his laughter, teasing and lots of card games such as cribbage and euchre.

John's family and friends will miss him greatly, but they will always love and remember the man that God lovingly gave them for 81 years.

Private services will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
