Obituary

Joseph S. Garrison, age 95, recently of Xenia, and previously of Beavercreek, passed away after a very brief illness on Friday, February 14, 2025. He was born April 24, 1929 in Hershey, PA, one of 13 children born to George A. and Lydia A. (Shiflett) Garrison.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; and brothers: George E., William R., Elwood J., John I., Vinson R., James Arthur "Art", Homer E., Paul B., Lawrence R. "Bob" and Henry J. Garrison.

He is survived by his children: Joan (John) Gardner of Huntington, IN; Gergory (Lisa) Garrison of Carmel, IN; Kathy (Fred) Lewis, David (Dottie) Stephens and Daniel Stephens, all of Xenia; sisters: Florence "Sis" Grazier and Mary J. Carey; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.

Joe graduated from Hershey High School, where he participated three sports: football, golf and wrestling. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps, which became the US Air Force before he completed his enlistment. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War era. Joe also served at Ft. Knox, KY and Ft. Monmouth, NJ before coming to Ohio, to work for DESC. He retired as an Engineering Tech from DESC, and although he never had a college degree, he spent his career traveling across the country training college educated engineers. He continued to love sports his entire life. He was golfing in local leagues well into his 80s. Joe started his day off by eating breakfast at Bob Evans in Beavercreek and then in Xenia once he moved here. He made friends with the staff and after he moved the Beavercreek staff kept in touch with him. Over the last couple weeks, because his health wouldn't allow, the Xenia staff sent his daily order of oatmeal home with his dear friend, Jim Landrum. He especially enjoyed getting in his car and driving around most afternoons.

A service to celebrate his life will be held 11 AM Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at AHOP, 282 Stelton Road, Xenia, followed by burial with military honors at Valley View Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 10 AM Tuesday, at the church until the time of service.
