Michael L. "Mike" Rotterman, age 76, of Xenia, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Hospice of Dayton with his family by his side. He was born July 9, 1948 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, the son of the late Robert C. and Catherine Rotterman.
Mike was a devoted husband for 53 years, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was actively involved and an integral part of his family's life. He was an amazing brother and uncle and loved his family immensely. He cherished his life long friendships, while always keeping an open place in his heart for new friends. Mike was a devout child of God and lived his life accordingly.
Mike attended Ascension grade school and graduated from Carroll High School, Class of 1966. He was a standout basketball player, being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010. He met his biggest cheerleader, Jan Neatherton, while at Carroll and they were married September 6, 1969 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Xenia. Mike continued his basketball career at Xavier University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in finance. Mike was an Account Executive, Director of Corporate Training and General Manager for AT&T, until retiring after 30 years of service.
Mike was the epitome of "living life to the fullest" and living his life "one day at a time." Whether it was coaching his son's and grandson's basketball teams, being on the Board at Pinecrest Swim Club or serving the on the Parish Council at church, Mike was actively involved with the people of the Xenia Community. He loved sports and could be found on just about any court in town, from basketball at Lexington Park, to tennis at the Fairgrounds and Pinecrest, to golf at WGC, to his latest love of pickleball, which he played with his chemo pack in tow, until just 2 months before his passing.
Mike loved people and people loved Mike. His smile could light up the sky and his presence was palpable. People were drawn to his positive personality, enthralled with his storytelling and loved his jokes and witty one-liners. He was loved and respected in all realms of his life.
Mike was dedicated to living a sober life and did so for the past 38 years. He dedicated his life to helping others do the same. He found peace and purpose in a community of recovery that changed his life. He was grateful for the fellowship that guided and supported him along the way. He poured his heart and soul into giving back and paying it forward. The number of lives he has touched is countless. Mike was one of a kind, larger than life and will be missed beyond measure.
