Nancy
Shaw
May 11, 1936 — May 19, 2022
Nancy Shaw, age 86, passed from this life on May 19, 2022 after a brief illness at her home in Union, KY. Formerly from Xenia, OH, Nancy and her late husband, John, moved to KY to be nearer to their daughters in 2020.
Nancy was born on May 11, 1936 to Earl (Pete) and Donalda (Dee) Cost Heaton in Xenia, OH. She was a 1954 graduate of Xenia High School where she excelled in academics and fostered her musical talents. She played the piano and the accordion and had the most melodic soprano voice. She was a detailed person and took pride in her secretarial skills that landed her a Federal position with the Armed Forces in the Panama Canal Zone. She returned to the United States by 1959 where she then fell in love with John. They were married June 20, 1959 at the Trinity Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Chiles.
Nancy eventually went to work for the Greene County Treasurer's Office in Xenia for the next 32 years. She juggled parenthood and a full-time job before many realized you could do both. She retired from the County in 2000 which afforded her and John to travel the United States in their Fifth Wheel with other Xenians. And no matter how near or far, there was always time for the grandchildren to travel with them or for a visit. They eventually settled in Fort Myers for a second home and enjoyed many years with old and new friends to experience the sunny Florida life. Although Florida dress was more casual, Nancy was always coiffed and dressed immaculately living by the motto "If the shoe fits, buy it in every color".
Nancy was preceded in death by John, her husband of 62 years on January 30, 2022, her parents, brother-in-laws Charles and William Shaw, sister-in-law, Martha Shaw and son-in-law Dr. George Barber of Versailles, KY. She is survived by daughters Cheryl Barber of Versailles, KY and Jennifer (Chris) Paxson of Union, KY. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Eric Caudill of Versailles, KY and Victoria Silvati of Indianapolis, IN, Sister-in-laws Carolyn (Carl) Elliott and Dorothy Shaw of Xenia.
Family and friends are invited to the graveside service at Woodland Cemetery in Xenia, OH on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Nancy and John will both be interred next to her parents. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to your favorite charity or the Elks Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 297, Xenia, OH 45383 will honor her memory.
