Nathan Kenneth
Burr
Aug 12, 1930 — Mar 2, 2024
Xenia
Nate Burr, professional land surveyor, has set his last corner pin.
Nathan Kenneth Burr, 93, of Xenia, died Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Jamestown Place Health & Rehab, just up the street from his childhood home.
He was born August 12, 1930, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the son of Marion K. and Mildred (Burros) Burr. Nathan graduated from Silvercreek High School in Jamestown and attended Wilmington College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1951-1955. A lifelong Jamestown and Xenia resident, Nathan was a Deputy Greene County Engineer and later formed Pierce and Burr Surveyor's with his longtime friend Ben Pierce. After that he was self-employed and spent decades as an Ohio registered land surveyor in and around the Greene County area.
In addition to raising a family, Nate wore many hats over the years. High school basketball official, softball pitcher, golfer, professional golf spectator, beloved Cleveland Browns fan, avid puzzle solver, space enthusiast, Oreo cookie aficionado, and member of BPOE 668. He continued to enjoy attending Silvercreek High School reunions. Nate was proud and respectful of all his personal and professional friends.
Nathan is survived by his sons, Paul, Thomas (Cindy), Mark (Michelle), Robert (Carin), Daniel (Melanie), Matthew (Mary) and Jon (Amanda) Burr; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; step-daughters, Karen (Steve) Molden, Cathy and Christine Cain. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann L. Burr; son, Kevin Burr; grandson, Anthony Burr; and step-daughter, Colleen Cain.
On this date a half century ago NASA launched the ever successful Pioneer 10 mission. The spacecraft crossed our solar system and soldiered on, still going strong. Godspeed to both.
