Pamela Sue Yates, age 70, of Xenia, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Sue was born April 21, 1954 in West Liberty, Kentucky the only daughter of Bill and Pauline (Nickels) Elam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Charles Nickels, Bill Elam, Jr. and Ralph Elam.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, James Yates, whom she married May 21, 1971; sons: James Jr. "Jimmy" Yates and Bill Yates, all of Xenia; brothers: Gary Elam and Danny (Zada) Elam, both of New Carlisle, Ohio; grandchildren: Jesse, Bill Jr. and Hannah Yates; sisters-in-law; Beverly (Glen) Davidson and Vera Yates; nieces: Trina Elam, Danielle Daugherty, Amber Elam, Tammy Travis, Crystal Travis, Jesse Lewis and Libby Hawkins, in addition to many other nieces and nephews.

Sue had worked at the Fairborn Schools while her sons were young. She enjoyed bowling, cooking and flower gardening. She was a devoted wife and protective mother and aunt. She also enjoyed attending Blue Grass festivals. Sue especially enjoyed attending drag races and supporting her husband during his races. She had worked at Kil-Kare Raceway over the years while her husband raced.

Services will be held 3 PM Tuesday at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia with Gary Easterling officiating. A gathering for friends and family will begin at 2 PM Tuesday until the time of service at the funeral home.
