Richard Eugene Herold, 92, of Xenia and formerly of Galion, died Monday May 19, 2025, at the Dayton VA Hospice Unit.

He was born November 24, 1932, in Mansfield, the son of Peter and Theresa (Reiner) Herold.  Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict.  He taught music, math and 4th Grade in the Highland School District in Medina County.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion, DAV and American Legion.  Richard was the choir director for many churches in NE Ohio, especially the Granger United Methodist Church.  He was a member of various magicians clubs in Ohio and loved music, painting, fishing and poetry.

Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia (Schroeder); children, Angela Marie (William) Ashbeck, Ted (Brigid) Herold and Tracy (Jeff) Danhoffer; grandchildren, Nate (Kelli) and Danny Ashbeck, Jesse (Morgan) and Morgan Herold, Rebecca (Kyle Anderson) Danhoffer and Evin (Tamara) Danhoffer; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Gabby, Alex, Zelda and Luna Ashbeck, Rowan and Asher Herold; his faithful K9 companion, Lenny.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence; and brothers, Edward and Arthur Herold.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Dayton VAMC Victory Ridge Hospice, 4100 W. Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428.
