Shirley Ann Hughes, age 81, of Jamestown, Ohio passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Quaker Heights Care Community in Waynesville. She was born January 3, 1942 at home on McKay Station Road, Clinton County, Ohio the daughter of Wiley and Lucy Olive (Copas) Rothwell.

On February 28, 1959, Shirley married Everett C. Hughes, Jr. and he preceded her in death on October 4, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Olive Warden, Mary Bowermaster, Harley, Ralph, Clark, Chester, David, Earl and Ray Rothwell.

She is survived by her children: Melody (William) Kearns of Jamestown, Donald E. (Dani) Hughes of Xenia and Robert W. (Sue) Hughes of Jamestown; a brother: Kenneth Carl (Marcella) Rothwell; grandchildren: Shane (Michelle) Harphant, Scott (Becky) Harphant, Megan (Nick) Ferrell and Hunter Hughes; great grandchildren: Riley, Emma and Rhett; sister-in-law: Jody Rothwell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Shirley was active with the Eleazer United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in the activities at the Port William-Lumberton Senior Center. She loved her cats. She was also an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed listening to them on the radio. She was a devoted mom and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local animal rescue.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Thursday, September 7, 2023 at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
