Mrs. Thelma Johnetta Weakley, age 87 years old, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024, following a brief illness at her home in Xenia, OH. She was born on February 19, 1936, in Xenia, OH to the late John and Marguerite Newsom. Thelma was a proud lifelong resident of Xenia. Known as "Red" by her friends and family for her beautiful natural red hair, she was a graduate of East High School and Good Samaritan Nursing School in Dayton, OH. A gifted singer, Thelma, along with two church friends formed the gospel group named "The Harmonious Three" (TH3). The group recorded an album and performed a concert every year in Xenia. Thelma always had the ability to make people smile with her quick wit and infectious laugh. She is survived by her siblings, Mary Esther Fowler of Westland, MI, Gloria Hill of Fullerton, CA, Anna Brown of Carmel, IN, John (Dianne) Newsom of Macon, GA, and Wayne (Cookie) Newsom of Xenia, OH. Her oldest brother Leon preceded her in death as a toddler in 1931. Thelma leaves to mourn her nieces, nephews, Godchild, cousins, and a host of relatives and friends. Thelma's final wish as a medical educator was the donation of her body to the Wright State Medical School for education and research. Family, friends, and others are invited to a memorial service in Thelma's honor on February 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at United A.M.E. Church in Xenia, OH.
